How to get access to NARGA during lockdown alert levels

During lockdown levels students do not have all hour access to NARGA, we do not have enough space avilable for all NARGA students. Only students that have a sound motivation for access to NARGA, i.e. no laptop, no data etc. will have the oportunity to log a call on our service desk to request access. All other access for your classes will be granted to you by your lecturer (or assistant or demis etc). They will open the NARGA room for you when you go to class.

How to install the University's Secure VPN - Citrix VPN

The secure VPN is necessary for all services that needs a secure connection into the university systems.

Science VPN and NARGA lab SSH

As a sciences student, you should be able to access https://suvpnnsc.sun.ac.za.

  • If you have trouble connecting and installing the VPN application, see the help section below.

  • Once connected you will be able to access internal sites and SSH to open.rga.stb.sun.ac.za or IP: 146.232.49.6 to make use of the NARGA lab image via command line.

How to print to the campus printers from home

In order to be able to print to the campus printers from home you will need to have VPN access

Then you will be able to set up and print to the Safecom printers

How to load printing credits online

From the my.SUN menu the following options must be selected if students would like to pay for, amongst others: STUDENT FEE, WASHING – STUDENTS, PRINTING, SHUTTLE SERVICE_TYGB, LAPTOP DEPOSIT

This will direct you to SharePoint, where you will be able to download the software and install it on your own device whether it be Windows, Linux or Mac.

Mathematica Online

You can use Mathematica online instead of installing it.

Please note this is a paid feature made available to the university during lockdown and will expire on the 15 August.

Registration steps

  1. Create an account by selecting basic plan (sign up free)
  2. Once complete, click or copy and paste this link into your browser: https://user.wolfram.com/portal/requestAK/806cdd549cf42966445c608efbf6475da41119ac

  3. A screen should show like below (click to expand):

  4. At the Department drop down, select statistics. Then agree to the terms and condition and submit

  5. Once completed an email will be sent to the NARGA support team for approval and only then will access be granted.
